COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course deals with the various major types of computer applications including word processors, spreadsheets, and databases. Students will also have the option of exploring the use of computers in other areas such as E-mail, exploring the Internet, graphics, and desktop publishing. The course involves practical, hands-on experience in the computer lab.

LEARNER OBJECTIVES: The Student will:

(1) describe the major hardware components of a typical computer system.

(2) describe the functions of the CPU, main memory, auxiliary memory, and input-output devices.

(3) become familiar with an integrated software system consisting of a word processor, database, and spreadsheet application using Microsoft Works 4.0.

(4) study the impact of computers on society in terms of jobs, ethics and the Internet.

(5) expose students to examples of the computer as a useful tool.

COMPUTER CENTER RULES

1. Respect the instructor, your classmates, and this computer lab.

2. 1 Tardy = warning; Additional Tardy = Jug(s)

3. Restroom pass - Don't even ask!(We have too much to do)

4. Horseplay will be cause for removal from computer center.

5. No Trespassing.

6. Food/drink or gum is not to be brought into the lab.

7. Never copy a classmates assignment. This is a serious infraction with a severe penalty.

8. Do not play games on the computers unless approved by the instructor.

9. Place assignments in teachers box not on teachers desk.

10. It is the students responsibility to make-up any work due to student absence.

11. Late homework will only be accepted on the next school day after the original due date.
