Student Life
The renovation and expansion of the student Academic Achievement Center is moving right along and on schedule.
On April 4, 2012, we broke ground for the new student achievement center and since the end of the school year construction has been moving full speed ahead.
Center programming was initiated this past school year under the direction of Ms. Jonee Lee. Ms. Lee coordinated all center services including the maintenance of a student resource web page that grants students access to library and database services, additional references, interactive academic tutorials and content/subject area specific sites. Tutoring services are available to all St. Francis students in the form of Academic Coaching and Subject-Area Tutoring. Professional tutors who specialize in various content areas and study skills, as well as peer tutors, provide immediate “drop-in” assistance or scheduled individual tutoring to students.
The center also employed two writing coaches who are available to help students develop their writing skills and prepare college application essays. Additionally, the center offered testing services for students who needed to complete make-up tests or required testing accommodations.
The renovation and expansion of the existing space, due to be completed during the early part of the 2012-13 academic year, will enable St. Francis to expand on the services that are currently in place. We plan to make use of the increased space with the latest technology, introduce structured subject-based student learning communities for excellence, provide technology training sessions for students, parents and faculty and host guest speakers and authors. The center will also make available space for upperclassmen leadership development, alumni connections with our current students and programming for students with selective and highly selective college aspirations.
