Coaching Staff

Dick Nowak - Varsity Coach

Mr. Richard Nowak enters his sixth year as the head Golf Coach at St. Francis de Sales High School. He was an assistant coach for the 2000 City Championship team.

Mr. Nowak is a Toledo native who retired from Mercy Hospital in 1998 after 18 years of service. He was a competitive amateur golfer in Northwest Ohio, and is a retired football, basketball, lacrosse, and volleyball official at all high school levels. He also gives time to Stone Oak and Brandywine Country Clubs. He and his wife Dorothy have two children, a daughter, Cindy, and a son Greg, who is a 1977 St. Francis graduate.

Tony Czerniakowski - Junior Varsity Coach

Mr. Tony Czerniakowski is starting his fifth season as the Head JV Golf coach. Mr. Czerniakowski is a 1986 graduate of St. Francis. He has a Bachelor of Secondary Education from the University of Toledo and served as a substitute teacher and coach in the Washington Local Schools for four years.

Mr. Czerniakowski has worked at Ottawa, Detwiler, and Collins Park Golf Courses, as well as Bent Tree Golf Club in the Columbus market. Presently he is working at Bedford Golf Course.

Ken Koperski - Freshman Coach

Ken Koperski is a veteran of coaching high school sports in the Toledo area. He has 19 years coaching high school girls' basketball at St. Ursula Academy and Northwood High School and is currently a member of the coaching staff at Notre Dame Academy. For three seasons, Ken coached varsity golf at St. Ursula Academy, twice taking the team to the Ohio State Championships in Columbus, OH where the team finished in the top five.

A graduate of the University of Toledo, Mr. Koperski spent twenty-seven years on the Toledo Police Department. He retired in 1994 as the acting deputy chief in charge of criminal investigations. Since that time, he has been employed as the caddie master at Inverness Club in Toledo. The caddie golf team at Inverness has won the Toledo District Junior Golf Association inter-club championship eight times and has been runner-up four times.
