Running for Office

Requirements for Candidates (2006-2007)

Listed here are some of the requirements for those who are running for any position within Student Council:

  1. Any persons having accumulated more than six demerits during the current school year are ineligible to run for any office;
  2. Candidates cannot be on the academic ineligibility list;
  3. Elected officers will be expected to, among other things,
    • be positive role models and willing leaders;
    • attend several summer meetings;
    • attend regular meetings throughout the school year;
    • help with all student council activities;
    • coordinate Homecoming, Spirit Week, the Prom, school dances, pep rallies and other social activities.
  4. Members of Student Council who receive more than six demerits shall be dismissed from office.

Elections for Student Council Officers

Offices consist of:

  • President and Vice President of Student Council (as one ticket – must be Seniors next year)
  • Assistant President of Student Council (must be a Junior next year)
  • Secretary of Student Council (must be a Sophomore next year)
  • Friday, April 27 Election forms are due by 3:00 p.m. in the main office
  • Tuesay, May 1 Homeroom meeting for all candidates in multi-purpose room
  • May 2, 3, 4 & 7 Speeches are videotaped before and after school
  • Tues. & Wed., May 8 & 9 Speeches are shown during homeroom
  • Thursday, May 10 Primary election during homeroom
  • Friday, May 11 Final election during homeroom

Elections for Class Officers

Offices consist of (run as one ticket):

  • President
  • Vice President
  • Assistant President
  • Secretary
Also: One, two or three class representatives, depending on the size of the class. Any individual may run for class representative. Depending on the number of applicants for class representative, those running for class office may also be included as candidates for this position. Dates for Freshman Class Officer & Rep. Elections
  • Wednesday, Oct. 11 Begin posting campaign material
  • Friday, Oct. 13 Class officer & Rep. forms are due by 3:00 p.m. in the main office
  • Monday, Oct. 16 Homeroom meeting for all candidates in multi-purpose room
  • Wednesday, Oct. 18 Speeches are made during Freshman Focus Day
  • Wednesday, Oct. 18 Elections are held during Freshman Focus Day
Dates for Senior, Junior and Sophomore Class Officer & Rep. Elections
  • Thursday, May 17 Class officer forms are due by 3:00 p.m. in the main office
  • Monday, May 21 Homeroom meeting for all class officer and representative candidates in multi-purpose room
  • Tuesday, May 22 Speeches are made by current Freshmen (Sophomore officer candidates) in the gym during homeroom
  • Wednesday, May 23 Speeches are made by current Sophomores (Junior officer candidates) in the gym during homeroom
  • Thursday, May 24 Speeches are made by current Juniors (Senior officer candidates) in the gym during homeroom
  • Friday, May 25 Elections during homeroom
