Policies for Completing Service
Juniors may serve at more than one agency to complete the 30 hour requirement. Juniors will complete contracts used for the tracking of agencies, hours at each, and authorizing signatures.
Juniors may opt to serve at any SFS approved agency. Students must make sure the agency is approved prior to service. Juniors may serve up to a total of 10 hours for service to St. Francis outside of school time. All questions regarding service placement should be directed to the service directors.
Service opportunities will be communicated to juniors through a variety of methods including daily announcements, posting on a designated bulletin board, and posting on the SFS web site.
Assessment
- All students will be required to complete 30 hours of service at one or more of the approved agencies
- Proof of completion will be required
- All service must be completed prior to April 1st.
- Satisfactory proof of completion is required for promotion to senior year
- All students will be required to submit an essay that addresses a set of questions or prompts about their service experience.
- All papers are due within two weeks of completing service, but no later than April 15th
- Students must receive a passing grade on their paper for promotion to their senior year.
- The pass/fail status for each student will be determined by the service directors and will be based on the satisfactory completion of the actual service and the service paper.
Timeline
Sophomore Year
Early March - Sophomore teachers in New Testament and Morality classes orient students to the concept of service as it relates to Catholic Doctrine and Christian Stewardship. Service Directors speak to Sophomore classes to orient them to the service program and the service fair.
Mid-March - Sophomore (and Junior) students attend service fair Students may begin service
Junior Year
April 1 - Due date for all junior service to be completed
April 15 - Due date for service reflection papers. Due to service directors.
