St. Francis de Sales

Each senior is required to complete and submit a self reflection using the following questions as a guide. The student can use the questions to develop an essay. The essay needs to be in Times New Roman, font size 12, ½ “ margins, 1.5 line spacing and a minimum of 750 words.

The student may choose to respond directly to each question in paragraph form. Each question needs to be boldface with the responses typed below using Times New Roman, font size 12, ½” margins and 1.5 line spacing with a minimum of 150 words per question.

The self reflection can be submitted by email. Make sure the file is in a word doc format, rich text format (rtf) or in the body of the email. This assessment is due one week after they finish their placement.

Seniors will receive a grade of “Pass” or “Fail” on the reflection, depending on whether or not the questions were adequately answered by the student. If a “Failing” grade is achieved, the student will have an opportunity to revise and resubmit the assessment. The revision is due three days from the date the original is returned with the “Failing” grade.

Questions to respond to:

1. Describe the type of service placement and include the agency’s name, your responsibilities and details about those you served in the community.
2. What feelings did you experience? Were they unexpected? What effects did it have on you? Was it positive or negative? Were the expected or not?
3. What did you learn about yourself from this experience? Did you discover new interests or talents that you didn’t know you had or limitations about yourself? How about your strengths and weaknesses? What problems did you encounter and how did you resolve them?
4. Do you feel you made a difference? Did you connect with anyone in particular?
5. Read Matthew 5:3-11, 5:14-16 or 13:31-32. Reflect on how this relates to your service? How has this placement challenged your view of the call of Christ to serve one another?
6. What Gospel values were you required to practice or learn? Which values of St. Francis de Sales did you recognize, model or work to promote?
7. Rate your experience from 1 to 10 with 1 to be “Not Meaningful” and 10 “Very Meaningful.” This is in your concluding paragraph.
