 Each student is required to submit a FULL TWO-PAGE, double-spaced typed paper (approximately 1,000 words) reflecting upon his experience as a volunteer in the placement of his choice. This paper must be submitted to the Christian Service Office immediately after finishing service hours. Students in Social Justice must complete their service in the first semester. If service is completed in the summer the reflection paper should be sent or brought to the school's office c/o The Service Office.
The student will receive a grade of "Pass" or "Fail" on his paper, depending on whether or not he adequately completed the assignment. If a student receives an "F" on his paper, he will be given an opportunity to rewrite the paper. The second paper must be submitted to the office within three days after the student receives his first paper back.
The following questions must be answered in the reflection paper:
- What type of service did you participate in? Include the name of the agency and a discussion of tasks, roles, assignments, etc.
- What feelings did you experience while working at your agency placement?
- What did you learn about yourself during your service time? Were any relationships formed?
- Which Gospel values did you encounter during your placement
- What problems did you encounter during your placement?
- Which values held by St. Francis de Sales, our patron saint, did you recognize, model, or work to promote?
- On a scale of 1-10, rate your experience. Consider 1 to be "Not very meaningful" and 10 to be "Made a big difference to me and my life". Show this scale at the lower right hand of the second sheet of your paper.
