Big Brothers PDF Print E-mail

In a spirit of community, fellowship and brotherhood, every incoming Freshman student is paired with an upperclassman whose role it is to serve as a mentor to the Freshman. The primary duty of a Big Brother is to support, help and guide his “Little Brother”, especially as the Little Brother begins his high school career. It is not uncommon for Freshmen to feel overwhelmed to some degree during their first few days (or even weeks and months) of school. Fear, anxiety, nervousness, confusion: these feelings abound among the new arrivals. Those who serve as Big Brothers can often be a tremendous benefit in the life of a Freshman by helping him to alleviate his fears and other such feelings. Ideally, the Big Brothers help the Freshmen to know the “territory,” such as the building, the teachers, the schedule, the cheers, the traditions, etc. The goal to help each and every Freshman to feel “at home” and as a full fledged member of this great community.

If you are an incoming Freshman and would like to request a specific upperclassman as a Big Brother, please contact Mr. Don Conry by Friday, August 18th, at 419-531-1618 Ex. 318, or at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Duties of Big Brothers

In general, the duties of a Big Brother include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • To welcome your Little Brother on Registration Day, and to assist him with the registration process (you need to report to the gym, in proper dress code attire, by 12:40 p.m. Pizza will be provided following Senior registration for all Big Brothers). You will be finished no later than 3:00 p.m. If you cannot attend this event, please notify Mr. Conry (419-531-1618 Ex. 318).
  • To encourage your Little to get involved in school activities and to attend school events, such as dances, football games, etc.;
  • To help your Little understand the mechanics of life at SFS (e.g., the schedule, JUG, the location of locker rooms, offices, the chapel and the pool, etc.);
  • To regularly pray for your Little Brother;
  • To “check in” with your Little Brother at least once a week, if not more so at the beginning of the school year, making inquiries regarding his welfare, his classes, and his academic, social, spiritual and physical life;
  • To support and guide your Little throughout the year, helping him to be the best, well-rounded Knight he can be.

It is important to keep in mind that you are expected to be a Big Brother the entire school year and not just at registration time. Members of your Student Council and the Campus Ministry Core Team have been discussing ideas and possibilities for future Big Brother – Little Brother activities. The plan is to have periodic social activities. If you have any ideas, please share them with Mr. Conry or a Student Council member. Also, if you have a preference for whom you would like as a little brother and did not signify this preference on the sign-up sheet, notify Mr. Conry by phone (531-1618 x.318) or e-mail ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) by Friday the 10th. There are no guarantees, but the best will be done to accommodate your request.
