District Semifinals Preview PDF Print E-mail

As the spring season arrives, so does the playoff season for high school basketball. And Thursday, St. Francis takes on arch rival St. John's Jesuit for a chance to move on in the state tournament.

During the regular season both teams suffered tough losses and nailed down some great wins, but tonight, it's all on the line. The two teams split the two previous games, St. John's winning the first, and the Knights getting the victory in the city semis. And after a tough loss to Central in the city championship, the Knights came out with some serious determination to beat Start High School in the state playoff's opening round.

Thursday's game tips off at UT's Savage Arena at 6:15.

In Thursday night's basketball game against St. John's Jesuit, St. Francis fans don't know what to expect. The two teams split two games during the regular season.

A key player for St. Francis will be Greg Fockler. He had a great game against the Titans the last time out.

SJJ will depend on TJ Gillespie. He had 13pts against the Knights in the last match up.

Thursday night, St. Francis takes on St. John's in the district semifinals of the state basketball playoffs. This will be the third time the two teams have played each other in as many weeks. The two teams split the two previous games. The Titans won in the regular season, and the Knights got the win in the city league championship semifinals. This time around, a berth in the district final is at stake, and the loser goes home.

Leading the Knights is the senior trio of Storm Stanley, Kent Goldsmith and Greg Fockler. Stanley will have to play big to counteract the Titans' speed.

For the Titans, Jay Springs, TJ Gillispie and freshman Marc Loving lead the offense.

With a shot at the district championship and the season series at stake, both teams are sure to be fired up for this game at UT's Savage Arena. Tip time is 6:15pm.
