 Daniel Yanos, Samuel Evola, Paul Fudacz, William Shellabarger, and Joshua Maciejewski
Five St. Francis de Sales seniors have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program. These students have demonstrated outstanding academic potential by their strong performance in this highly competitive program.
Samuel Evola of Sylvania has achieved one of the highest honors as a National Merit Semi-Finalist. Semi-Finalists are in the top 1 percent of more than 1.5 million seniors who entered the 2010 competition by taking the 2008 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). He will compete for some 8,200 scholarships that will be offered next spring. Samuel Evola is the son of John and Eileen Evola. He plays water polo and is also on the swim team. He is vice-president of the senior class and a member of the National Honor Society.
He was also involved in Youth Leadership Toledo and was the student co-leader of the formation of a new program at St. Francis called ‘Students in Action’; a program through the national Jefferson Awards. He was recently appointed to the Leadership Toledo Board of Trustees.The four St. Francis young men named National Merit Commended Students in the program for their exceptional academic promise are Paul Fudacz, Jr. of Maumee; Joshua Maciejewski of Perrysburg; William Shellabarger of Blissfield; and Daniel Yanos of Temperance. These Commended Students placed among the top 5% of all students who took the test.
· Paul Fudacz, Jr. is the son of Paul and Ellen Fudacz. He has been a manager of the school’s football team. He is involved with campus ministry and the Interact club which is the high school chapter of Rotary Club. He is a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish where he is a member of the parish youth group. He plans to study business in college.
· Joshua Maciejewski is the son of Daniel and Priscilla Maciejewski. He is captain of the Toledo Blades Fencing Club and a member of the Men’s Chorus, “The Singing Blue.” He was a delegate to Buckeye Boys State. One of his favorite subjects has been Chemistry with Dr. Uram.
· William Shellabarger is the son of Dave and Wynona Shellabarger. He plans to study business or engineering. He is a member of Campus Ministry and the National Honor Society. He plays golf and is a member of the Youth Group at St. Peter’s Parish.
· Daniel Yanos is the son of Neal and Beth Yanos. He plays soccer. He is a member of Campus Ministry and participated in the Mission Trip to Pittsburgh this past summer. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the Ping Pong Club.
