Overview
Capital gifts to St.
Francis de Sales High School are defined (for budgetary and tracking purposes)
as gifts of $5,000 or more. Often,
capital gifts are made on a multi-year pledge basis (typically, five years).
Capital gifts to the
School ensure a strong permanent endowment, help to build and restore campus
facilities and sustain a comprehensive range of academic and extracurricular
programs.
Donors who choose to
make capital gifts can direct their support toward a specific purpose that
matches their personal interests with the needs and priorities of SFS. Such purposes include, among other things,
Financial Aid and Tuition Assistance; Academic Programs and Instruction,
Student Life, Athletics; and Facilities and Maintenance. Capital gifts may also lead to recognition
opportunities, which honor or memorialize a person of the donor's choosing.
Capital gifts fall
into the following categories: endowment gifts; restricted current use gifts
and unrestricted current use gifts. To make a capital gift please call Joe Sweeney at 419-531-1618.
Endowment Gifts
Endowment gifts are
essential to ensuring the long-term financial health of the School. Gifts to the Endowment Fund are invested by
the School and the income from the gift is directed toward a purpose selected
by the donor. Only the income from the
principal is expended in accordance with the School's spending rule, so that
the gift continues in perpetuity, helping to safeguard SFS’s tradition of
excellence against changing economic climates.
In accordance with
both the donor’s wishes and the School’s needs, gifts to the Endowment Fund
support Financial Aid and Tuition Assistance; Academic Programs and
Instruction, Student Life, Athletics; and Facilities and Maintenance. Gifts of $5,000 or more can be made to the
Endowment Fund for the benefit of the School in respect of any one of the
aforementioned areas of need.
Additionally, for gifts of $25,000 or more, a named fund within the
Endowment Fund may be established.
Currently, there are 89 such named funds.
Restricted Current Use Gifts
Restricted current
use funds are directed toward a purpose designated by the donor, such as the
rebuilding or enhancement of the School’s campus or the creation of term
financial aid funds (for example, the Sponsor-a-Knight program). The
principal of a current use gift is depleted over a specified term.
Unrestricted Current Use Gifts
Gifts toward
unrestricted current use support the day-to-day operations of the School,
including Financial Aid and Tuition Assistance; Academic Programs and
Instruction, Student Life, Athletics; and Facilities and Maintenance.
