Head Coach Richard Cromwell
Mr. Dick Cromwell exhibits all the qualities of an outstanding football coach — athletic ability, leadership, intelligence, and previous success. This year marks his twenty-third season as the Head Varsity Coach at St. Francis.
Mr. Cromwell attended Medina H.S., where he lettered in baseball, basketball, and football. After graduating he enrolled at Ohio Wesleyan University and played for the school’s football team. He was the team’s starting quarterback during his junior and senior years. Mr. Cromwell concluded his collegiate career by winning the Mike Gregory Trophy, an award given to the most outstanding offensive back in the former Ohio Conference.
Coach Cromwell graduated in 1969 from Ohio Wesleyan with a B.A. in mathematics. He began his teaching and coaching career at Dayton Fairmont West H.S. the following year. After three years at Fairmont West, Mr. Cromwell returned to Ohio Wesleyan as an assistant football coach for three years. From 1975 to 1979, Mr. Cromwell served as head football coach at Olmsted Falls H.S. He also served as head coach at Findlay H.S. from 1985 until 1988. Mr. Cromwell first coached at St. Francis from 1979 to 1984. During that time, he coached three teams to the state playoffs (in 1980, 1982, and 1984). The ‘84 season climaxed with the Knights winning the Division I State Championship. During his first six seasons at SFS, his teams had a .765 winning record. Since his return to St. Francis in 1990, the Knights have earned an overall record of 135-58 (.699). Mr. Cromwell led SFS to City Champion titles in 1992, 1993, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004. The Knights also gained state playoff berths in 1992, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2003, 2004, won the Division II State Title in 2001, and were a State Semifinalist in 2002.
This school year, Mr. Cromwell will be serving as interim principal. Mr. Cromwell and his wife Kathy have two children: Brian, SFS ‘98 and now a offensive coordinator for Columbus DeSales, and Jenna, SUA ‘98.

Coach Craig Schaefer
Mr. Craig Schaefer has been defensive coordinator of the Knight football team for 19 seasons. He previously served as head coach at Sylvania Northview. After graduating from Clay High School, Coach Schaefer attended Ashland University where he earned a degree in health and physical education. In 1975 he received a Master of Education degree from Bowling Green State University.
Mr. Schaefer currently teaches in the Sylvania school system. He and his wife Donna have two children, Todd and Kristie, and three grandchildren, Alex, Madelyn, and Kaden.
Coach Craig Schaefer serves as the defensive coordinator for the knights. His other responsibilities include coaching the secondary personnel and offensive ends.

Coach Luis Santiago
This year marks Mr. Luis Santiago’s twenty-third season as an assistant coach for the Knights.
Mr. Santiago, a 1982 SFS graduate, played four years of high school football as a tailback, punter, and safety. In 1981 he was named First Team All City tailback. Luis also played three years of basketball while at St. Francis.
Mr. Santiago is a Battalion Chief in the Toledo Fire Department He and his wife Ann have three children: Tony, SFS ’01, Joe, SFS ’04, and Emily.
Coach Santiago helps Coach Cromwell call offensive formations and plays along with coaching the wide receivers.

Coach George Schaefer
Mr. George Schaefer begins his eighteenth year with the Knight football program. He works with the varsity offensive backs and also serves as the head coach for the JV team. He is also the head coach for the Knight Track and Field team.
Coach Schaefer graduated from Clay High School and attended Defiance College, where he earned a degree in physical education and health.
Mr. Schaefer is a lifeguard instructor and physical education teacher at St. Francis. This will be his thirteenth year as a member of the faculty. Mr. Schaefer and his wife Kim have four children: Kyle, a sophomore at SFS, Kelly, Kayla, and Kory.

Coach Matt Dombi
Mr. Matt Dombi, a 1983 graduate of St. Francis, returns for a eighteenth year as assistant coach with the Knights’ varsity football program. As a high school student, Mr. Dombi was a member of the Knights’ varsity football team for three years and the varsity baseball team for two. After graduating from St. Francis, Mr. Dombi received his Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Cincinnati. He also earned a master’s degree in Education from Spring Arbor University.
Mr. Dombi currently teaches in the Special Education Department for Toledo Public Schools at Leverette Junior High School. Mr. Dombi and his wife Laurie have one son, Nicholas.
Coach Dombi serves as the offensive and defensive line coach this year.

Coach Rick Michalak
This year is Mr. Rick Michalak’s fourth year as a varsity assistant. Rick is a 1981 graduate of St. Francis de Sales, and was the captain of Coach Cromwell’s first playoff team. Rick currently works as the Director of Admissions at St. Francis, and has a degree in marketing and sales from the University of Toledo. His wife, Michelle, works for the Toledo Public Schools. They have three children: Bailey, Mitchell, and Gabrielle.

Coach Michael Blochowski
Mr. Michael Blochowski is serving his fifteenth year on the varsity staff. He was previously a freshman coach for three years, the third as head freshman coach.
Mr. Blochowski graduated from Maumee High School where he earned MVP honors his senior year in football. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University, majoring in computer science and business. Currently, Mr. Blochowski teaches computer science and engineering classes at St. Francis. Mr. Blochowski and his wife, Kristin, have two sons, Luke and Josh.
Coach Block coaches the wide receivers and linebackers.

Coach Geoff Skibinski's
The 2007 season will be Mr. Geoff Skibinski’s first year as the Freshman Head Coach. He played four years at St. Francis, and graduated in 1995. He has also served as a head coach at Christ the King School for seven years. Geoff earned an Architectural Technology degree from the University of Toledo in 1998, and currently frames and builds homes for his own company, GMS Construction Co., LLC. Geoff and his wife Amy live in Sylvania.
Coach Andy Viertlbeck
This is the first year Mr. Andy Viertlbeck will be a part of the St. Francis coaching staff. He is a 1997 graduate of St. Francis. During his senior year, he served as Captain of the Knights football team, and was named City League Player of the Year and was an All-State selection. He continued his football career at the University of Dayton, where he was an All-League selection, and earned a degree in Finance. He will be coaching tight ends and tackles, as well as linebackers.
Coach Charlie Blair
2007 marks the seventh year for Mr. Charlie Blair. Coach Blair will be working with the freshmen offensive backs and the defensive line.
Coach Blair is a 1992 SFS graduate who played both football and wrestled for the Knights. In 1991, Charlie was named to the All-City team as a defensive tackle.
Charlie is currently attending Owens Community College where he is majoring in Diesel Technology. Charlie and his wife Tracy have two children: Yalona and Angel.
Coach Tony Santiago
This is the fourth year Mr. Tony Santiago is a member of the St. Francis coaching staff. Tony is a 2001 graduate of St. Francis, and son of 1982 graduate Luis Santiago. Mr. Tony Santiago played football for St. Francis all four years. He was a quarterback and defensive back. Mr. Santiago will be coaching quarterbacks, wide receivers, and defensive backs.
Mr. Santiago graduated from the MCO Northwest Ohio Paramedic Program last spring. Tony is presently working as a paramedic for a private ambulance company, but soon hopes to become a firefighter/paramedic for a local fire department.
Coach Steve Weber
Mr. Steve Weber returns for his twelfth year as athletic trainer. A 1981 SFS graduate, Steve received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Toledo in Sports Medicine.
In recent years Steve has completed accreditation to become a Strength and Conditioning Specialist and a Physical Therapist Assistant. Steve has also been accepted into the United States Olympic Committee’s Athletic Training Program. Through this program, Steve has served Olympic Athletes at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs and hopes to be invited to a future Olympic Games as an athletic trainer.
Mr. Weber has been an athletic trainer since 1987, spending time with Whitmer and Bowsher, as well as the Detroit Tigers. He is working with SFS in conjunction with Sports Care of the Toledo Hospital. Mr. Weber will again be teaching Physical Education on a part-time basis this school year.
