Tradition
St. Francis de Sales High School has a proud tradition of success with its Athletics programs. During the school's fifty year history the Knights have managed to capture twenty-five team state titles in six different sports; Basketball, Football, Swimming & Diving, Tennis, Water Polo and Wrestling. Over this same time period, the Knights have also been State Runner's Up on many occasions as well as Regional, District, Sectional and Toledo City League Champions numerous times.

On September 14th, 1955, St. Francis de Sales High School opened its doors and the first Knights started competing in athletics. Despite taking nine years for the Knights to win their first state title, which was in wrestling, the Knights have excelled and have added twenty-five state titles for a total of twenty-six state titles in 7 different sports over the school's fifty year history.

 The Irish Knight is an important piece of St. Francis de Sales athletic history. A symbol of the athletic prowess, the Irish Knight is awarded to the the winner of the Central Catholic High School and St. Francis de Sales High School football game. The winning school then earns the right to host the Irish Knight in their school, along with bragging rights, until the following year's game. |

Since 1974 when the All-Sports Trophy was introduced the Knights of St. Francis de Sales High School have held or shared the trophy ten times. The Knights have won or shared the trophy four out of the last seven years.
