St. Francis de Sales High School recently recognized the outstanding academic achievements of the 2009-10 inductees into the Collegium Honorum.

Membership in the Collegium Honorum is composed of students in each class who have a cumulative grade point average of 4.000 or better. Membership is determined each year at the end of the first semester. Seniors who average 4.333 or better will receive the Collegium Honorum traditional blazer displaying the school’s crest.

Thomas J. Kunkel, M.D., a graduate from the class of 1982 was invited to address the students. Currently, Dr. Kunkel is the Co-Medical Director of Palliative Care at St. Agnes Hospital as well as an anesthesiologist and intensivist at University Hospital in Cincinnati and West Chester Medical Center.

Patrick McGrady, an alumnus and benefactor of St. Francis de Sales High School and his wife, Angele, have established an endowed fund to provide an incentive scholarship to an outstanding scholar-athlete(s) already attending St. Francis de Sales.  The scholarship was established in 2001 for a football and/or basketball player.  This year, three scholarships, $2000 each, have been awarded for the 2009-10 academic year. The student-athlete(s) must have a cumulative grade point average of 4.0. Selection is made from among nominees at the beginning of the previous 4th quarter by Mr. McGrady.  Formal presentation of this award was made at the Fall Honors Ceremony on September 23. The recipients are Joe Antonini, sophomore, Dan Yodzis, junior, Storm Stanley, senior.

Mr. George Booth, a longtime friend and benefactor of St. Francis de Sales High School has established an endowed fund to provide an incentive scholarship to an outstanding scholar-athlete already attending St. Francis de Sales.   Mr. Booth established this award in 1998 and made a formal presentation at the Fall Honors Ceremony on September 23 to a senior, Patrick Dyer.

This year the scholarship is valued at $5000. The scholarship may be awarded for the following year, to a freshman, sophomore or junior athlete,  in any sport recognized as a varsity sport in our school. The student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 4.0. Selection is made from among nominees at the beginning of the previous 4th quarter.
