Fearrington Village author Larry Rochelle’s Murder On 15/501 sets his latest Palmer Morel thriller in the bucolic, rolling hills near Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Here the winding highway 15/501 provides entrance into the villages of Fearrington and Deerington, two communities with opposing viewpoints on life. Fearrington is a quiet, up-scale older community of forests, deer and croquet. Deerington presents a huge contrast with up-scale condos built with Route 66 motels in mind: each “motel” has garish colors, neon lights and loud music during the daylight hours. And, at night, Deerington becomes one party animal with dancing, romancing and a Las Vegas spirit.

Out of these contrasts evolves an intricate murder scheme to bring Deerington Village down. And in its place, the Old Testament God will rule and Chapel Hill folks will learn to Love America Again.

’86 Classmates meet in Qatar PDF Print E-mail
Arabian Knights’86 Classmates meet in Qatar   In December, Class of ’86 alumni Ryan Marshall and Jay Updegraff met for breakfast at The Four Seasons Hotel, in Doha, Qatar, located on the Arabian Gulf in the Middle East.  How did these two Knights end up halfway around the world in the same place at the same time, you ask? It all started when Jay, an Air Force Lieutenant Colonel currently deployed to the Middle East, received his 2008 Annual Fund Brochure.  Jay noticed the picture of Ryan on one of the pages of the brochure.  On a whim he e-mailed Ryan to see if he had seen the photo.  Jay mentioned that he was currently deployed to Qatar.  In a stroke of incredible timing, Jay received an e-mail back in five minutes from Ryan stating that he had indeed seen the brochure, and that he would be in Doha, the capital city of Qatar in four days, on business for Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., the global investment firm where Ryan works. The two graduates, who had not seen each other in fifteen years, arranged to meet for breakfast, and on December 16th enjoyed an hour-long reunion where they reminisced about playing JV baseball for Coach “Ernie” Albright, suffering through Fr. O’Neill’s Calculus class “I have forgotten more math than you will ever know Mr. Marshall” , and enduring the summer heat of two-a-day football practices under Coach “Crazy Legs” Cromwell which paid dividends in the form of the 1984 Division I Ohio State Football Championship. Ryan and his wife Mary have recently returned to New York City after a stint in San Francisco.  Ryan is currently a Managing Director for Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. Fixed Income.  Mary, a Director at Credit Suisse, recently started law school in the evenings. Jay and his wife Becky recently returned to Medford, NJ where Jay is stationed at McGuire AFB.  Jay is currently halfway through a four-month deployment serving as the Chief, Mobility Operations at the Combined Air Operations Center in Qatar.  Becky volunteers at St. Mary of the Lakes parochial school and is busy overseeing the activities of their kids, Daniel, age 12, and Catherine, age 8.  Jay and Ryan plan to get together again upon Jay’s return to the States in New York City along with their families.
